Siip and Joy combat against Ticket fraud

Dutch event organizer MBG Productions, known from JOY, launched an app for their events in may, that allows visitors to get quick and easy access to their events. At the same time, the app offers a solution to combat ticket fraud.

First events have taken place

Michael van der Lee, director of Joy: ‘As Joy, we want to prevent illegal resale and ticket fraud through this app. With Siip, we keep bots out and provide our visitors with fair and secure access to our events.

Normally, we check ages at the door, but through the app, this verification process is much faster. That’s convenient for visitors and also saves our colleagues a lot of discussion.’

Personal, digital access through an app

The first events where visitors receive personal and digital access via the Joy App have already taken place.

This short video demonstrates the ease of the visitor experience. From easily linking and sharing your tickets in your digital wallet to smoothly attending the event together.

Ticket sales for the first event via the JOY Apphave already taken place and the first digital ‘identity based’ tickets are ready. It allows visitors to get personal, digital access. The app will be used and tested for the first time, during the events of JOY at may 25 & 26 and June 23 at thet Bloemendaalbeach.

Personal, digital access through an app

You can easily share your digital tickets with friends via the app and you can get in faster, because your age has already been verified at home. ‘We normally identify at the door, but when you enter via the app, we see that you are really you and that you have a valid ticket. We have also collected everything there is to know about our events in the app.’

‘An interesting development. Primary ticketing which takes over secondary ticketing. Right about when the Dutch government wants to protect consumers by introducing regulations to prevent resale with excessive prices.

Is it necessary for the government to introduce rules for the original prices as well? Or can organizers find a solutions for these problems themselves?

There is no doubt that this excessive resale of tickets or ticket scalping is a major problem. As a consumer you often pay way too much or you can’t even afford to buy a ticket. There is also a huge risk that your ticket is invalid, if you bought it at the wrong platform.

The government is able to stop the reselling of tickets for festivals or sportevents by a legal prohibition. However, before you know it this means a lot of paper work and bureaucracy, because preventing this is very difficult. Therefore, it makes more sense that organizers keep control over the access rights to their events. Siip believes this is more appropriate.

The solution is identity based access. When you know who owns the ticket, it is easier to set the rules for transferring and reselling the tickets. This offers opportunities for increasing secondary sales, and for primary sales as well.

As an organizer, such as a pub or an association canteen, it is quite difficult to ask someone’s ID. This feels rather like you are controlling, when all you have to verify is if someone can have the access he wants, and you want to do this hospitably and as smoothly as possible. So you obey the rules and can be hospitable at the same time.’
